This article really put into words a feeling I've been having for a long time about education. How it's so removed from what students actually need, and most of the time, that need is to be heard. To be understood as people, not cogs in the state machine to be trained in maths, sciences, and writing.
I have some thoughts about how we can do things differently. Maybe doing a half-half program, one half based on practical training (taxes, negotiating salary, careers + civics, etc.) which would be like school now. Standardized testing, textbooks, etc. The other would be for the subjects where exploration is key - like your poetry circle! Having an open forum, a conference every class on the topic, and being able to be more free to experiment, enter the flow state, and just be.
If I could ask you some questions, that would be awesome - please don't hesitate to reach out!
